Geological diamonds are burdened with irregular shaped crystals producing a loss of more than 50% of the carat weight. Creating a crystal in the laboratory into a suitable shape improves efficiency allowing the cutter to acquire a larger diamond. Laboratory diamonds are always Type IIA quality compared to only 2% of geological mined diamonds which can claim this coveted attribute and distinction.
